THREE KM STUDENTS ACHIEVE NATIONAL MERIT FINALIST HONORS!!!! The following high school students have been recognized as Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Competition: Penelope Whiteside - HS^2, Audra Chesny - HS^2, and Brayden Sikorski - KMHS. More than 1.5 million juniors nationwide entered the 2024 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/MNSQT) in the fall of their junior year. The 16,000 semifinalists represented less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and included the highest scoring entrants in each state. To become a finalist and to be considered for a National Merit scholarship, each student was required to present an outstanding academic record throughout high school, be endorsed by their high school, and earn college entrance test scores that confirmed the student’s earlier performance on the qualifying SAT. Winners of Merit Scholarship awards are chosen from the Finalist group based on their abilities, skills, and accomplishments. Scholarships will be awarded to approximately 7,000 finalists beginning in March, 2024. Congratulations to these outstanding students!!

Emily Gomez, our BREAKOUT Girls Basketball Player! Thanks to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel for recognizing Emily Gomez as one of their 5 Breakout Players! In this article http://tinyurl.com/yc2refb4 they wrote “With the 1-2 punch of Grace Grocholski (Minnesota) and Braelyn Torres (Northern Michigan) that led the Lasers to the 2023 state title moved on from the program, first-year head coach Adam Stranc has the team sitting at a commendable 12-5. A vital part of that is the balance of scoring offensively, the fast-paced nature of the press defense, and the play of Gomez. Gomez averaged just 3.2 points for the state champion Lasers as a reserve but has taken on a new role as a junior. She's the team's leading scorer at 14.4 points per game, including 10 games with at least 15 points. Gomez is also one of two players (Lola Bond) who is averaging at least three steals a game.” Well done Emily!

KM FINNATICS (NAVY) TAKE FIRST PLACE IN STATE QUALIFIER ROUND ONE!!! The KM Finnatics outlasted 65 other teams to win the Early Ice 250 Challenge. This was a statewide tournament where teams could fish any public lake. KM was in 6th place most of the day, then a run of larger fish in the afternoon pushed them to second place. They were only 1/4" behind and a small group of dedicated anglers fished into the night, catching the big one that put them over the top. Congratulations to the entire team!!!!

KM Finnatics outlasted 65 other teams to win the Early Ice 250 Challenge this past weekend! The Early Ice 250 Challenge was a statewide tournament where teams could fish any public lake. It took a strong team effort to best Slinger High School. KM was in 6th place most of the day but just couldn't catch the fish to put us over the top. Luckily a spree of larger fish in the afternoon moved us to second place 1/4" behind the leader. For the next four hours, we had a small group of dedicated anglers who persisted well into the night until they caught the winning fish. Thank you to all the parents and kids who worked so hard to win this tournament and make the club what it is today.

Early Ice 250 Challenge
KMHS Students Austin Weber and Bradan Hegemann-Lindau earned Master Angler designations! This will be Bradan’s first Master Angler and Austin’s Second Master Angler. Over 250 high schoolers have competed in this year’s Master Angler Tournament; a Tournament that goes the entire Year. The competition is extremely challenging to the point that even Pro Tournament fishermen have agreed the length requirements are tough! Bradan (Freshman) finished 42nd and Austin (Junior) finished 13th. The Master Angler Program is through the Wisconsin Interscholastic Fishing Association (WIFA) and is a two-part program that provides recognition for student anglers who have pursued and caught quality fish based on established length criteria and have expanded their fishing knowledge by pursuing a variety of game and pan fish. In addition to this, both boys competed in the LUND Student Angler Organization; sponsored by LUND Boats. This involved an entire summer of traveling across the state to compete against kids from across the entire Midwest. They consistently finished in the top 20-30% at every single Bass Tournament. They will be receiving the Master Angler Plaques at State in February. Congratulations on this accomplishment Bradan and Austin!!
